Further rambling

Well... I've been a lazy blogger the last week, but nothing too exciting to report--which is ok by me sometimes.

The weekend was fun as usual. We housesat/played with a cat & dog on Friday night for Hal's parents. Their house is out past Bellevue which I consider another country. They live on a very private lot and it was really nice to be out there enjoying a cocktail on the porch without hearing traffic, trains or helicopters. I'll keep my place in the city though. Once every couple of months is enough.

I am back to swimming again this week!! I was on a great kick last year for several months and lost 20 lbs. I slacked off during Thanksgiving/Christmas... then we've been spending most nights and weekends working on the other duplex. No excuses any longer though.

Monday about killed me. Typically, the swimming lanes are the width of the pool. I have a 45 minute routine all worked out for that. Yesterday--for the first time I've seen this in over a year---the lanes went the entire length of the pool. They usually have a diving team at one end. This isnt a backyard pool...it's a competition, Olympic size pool. Talk about a struggle, especially on your first day back in a couple of months. It sucked to be half way down the pool and see how far I still had to go. I lasted 30 minutes.... but life was much better today... no long course lanes and I got back to my other routine.

I'm really ready for the weekend! We have a huge hockey game against Detroit on Thursday... and another on Saturday against Dallas.

Hopefully my next blog will find the Predators leading the NHL!!! Stay tuned.

Done, done, and I'm on to the next one

Ok, I hope I've infected your mind with that Foo Fighters song...

Next door house update: Our neighbors pulled their For Sale sign today... we were a little surprised they were doing that so fast... either they accepted an offer and are confident that it will progress and close, or they pulled it off the market.

We're relieved either way. We dont have to be curious and in limbo anymore. This blog title is a little misleading since we arent actively looking for another house to buy...but we'll keep our eyes open at any rate. As I posted earlier, now we can still plan for Argentina later this year and some other frivolous purchases we wouldnt do if we bought a house.

Another positive note... we have a confirmed tenant for the other half of our duplex. He moves in mid-April. It is so nice to not worry about people coming over to have a look... and now that the renovation is complete... no more continual trips to home improvement stores.

Well, thats all for now. I hope my blog hasnt been too boring as of late, but it's not every day that I have something as exciting as seeing Loretta Lynn to report. My intention is to keep this blog more personal about what I'm doing rather than spouting off about my opinions on politics and current events--which I certainly do lots of times, but I want to make this interesting for my friends who have different opinions.

Stay tuned for more!!!

Weekends are the best...

I love weekends...and vacation days for that matter (and squirrels). Ok, I stole that loving squirrels line from the great Loretta Lynn.

I did have a fun weekend though. We went to Home Depot on Friday night (thats fun, right?--no) and dinner later. I came home after that and listened to music and just chilled...I also got a little excited when Hal told me that Lorie Morgan was in his office that day... now, why I got excited over something I wasnt even a part of, I dont know..but thats me.

I did the usual sleeping late routine on Saturday and then we got busy continuing last minute things to finish the other side of the duplex. We went to the Preds vs. Dallas Stars game Saturday night. It was AWESOME! We had seats 8 rows off the glass at center ice. We won and reclaimed first place in the league, so that always helps. What didnt help was the lady next to me who ate every single item from the concession stand (stinky ass hot dog, stinky pretzel with nacho cheese and popcorn).

Sunday was fun too. We went to an open house in our neighborhood. It was insane... the house is perfect perfect perfect...except it is at the upper end of our price range, so it was a no go for us unless we wanted to eat ramen noodles for every single meal.

Our neighbors (who we gave an offer to) also had an open house. We're certain they got an offer, but apparently it wasnt what they hoped for as the house is still on the market and not pending. They also reposted it on craigslist later that night. hmmm, maybe our initial offer wasnt so bad after all... we'll see.

On a really positive note, we've had at least 10 people come look at our duplex for rent in the past week...and last night, we finally got someone who wants it!!! We only posted it on craigslist ... so we were hoping something like that would happen before we put out a yard sign and had every nutcase in Davidson County calling us.

That's enough boring details for now, more to follow... Stay tuned. :)

Que Sera, Sera

Well, we got a response on our offer and they want more than we're going to give... our original offer still stands, so we'll see what happens when they test the market... The crazy thing about all this is that we werent even in them market for a house, but this would be a good opportunity since it is next door to the duplex we already own.

The house is adorable as you see in the image below, but it's less than 800 sq ft and needs some kitchen and bath updates. We're anxious to see how it plays out. I'll keep ya posted!!

There is a silver lining however if someone else buys that house... Hal and I can continue planning for our trip to Buenos Aires in November!!!!

The waiting is the hardest part!

This has been a crazy week/weekend. We found out our next door neighbors are putting their house on the market. We've wanted this house for a while. It's really no larger than our current side of the duplex, but we still want it...it's an adorable house.

We provided an offer on Tuesday afternoon and are now in the waiting game... I really hope it happens, but we arent going to counter if they dont accept our offer...we provided a great offer and luckily Hal comes from a real estate family and works in the industry...and was able to provide them with a summary of the fees they would pay with another buyer who was represented by a realtor....

Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Bad Preds

AAAAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

The Preds lost Tuesday to Detroit. We are still # 1 in the NHL..but they are only 1 point behind... we play them tomorrow night in Detroit... so that will be the real deciding game....

GO PREDS!

Needle N-E-E-D-L-E

I'll never forget the moment in 5th grade when I misspelled "Needle" in a spelling bee--for the record, I spelled it "n-e-d-l-e"-- and my dreams of advancing further were shattered.

Thursday night, Hal and I went to see the Broadway show "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." I've been wanting to see it since I saw a performance on the Tony Awards a couple of years ago. It even won 2 Tony's for something. It was entertaining overall and I enjoyed it, but I didnt think it lived up to the hype I had heard. It was neat that they picked 3 audience members to participate and a "celebrity guest," if you call Miss TN a celebrity. The funny thing was watching those 4 non-cast members not know what was going on onstage.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE musicals and often listen to showtunes on XM radio or through cable tv music channels (yes, I fit that stereotype). The songs in the "Bee" were fun since it is a comedy afterall, but it was far from the best show I've seen. My favorite so far has been RENT and MAMMA MIA . I'm very anxious to see WICKED and The Color Purple though. I really want to see a Broadway show in NYC. Hal lucked out 2 years ago and got to see SPAMALOT with David Hyde Pierce and Tim Curry while I was stuck in lowly Nashville.

Molly Ringwald is coming to TPAC for a musical in May or June and I am excited to see that. In a perfect world, I'd go to the theater at least 3 times a week. I'm usually jealous when I go home that I dont have the talent to sing and dance like that (but of course I visualize it in my dreams). lol

That's all the news I have for now. Stay Tuned!!!
